Playtest an Unreal or mobile game with a web slice
Unreal Engine games and native iOS or Android apps don't have a web build Betacade can play. You can still playtest them: rebuild the one part you're unsure about for the web, and test that. Betacade tests your game's design, not its renderer, so a slice answers most of what a playtest asks.
Pick the question#
Name one thing you want to learn. Is the movement fun? Do players get through the first level? Is the shop's menu clear? A slice that tries to answer everything answers nothing.
Carve out the slice#
Take the smallest part of the game that answers the question:
- A mechanic: the jump, the grapple, the combat loop, in a small test space.
- A level: the first one, or the one players stall on.
- A flow: a menu, the shop, the tutorial's first minutes.
Bring the assets across#
- Meshes and materials: Unreal's built-in glTF exporter (File → Export, glTF). From other native tools, export glTF or FBX.
- Textures and audio: as they are.
- Animation: glTF or FBX.
- Behaviour: don't port Blueprints, C++, Swift or Kotlin. Write down what the slice does and rebuild it.
An AI coding agent is good at this part: give it the question, the assets and a description of the behaviour, and ask it to rebuild the slice for the web and deploy it to Betacade (see the agent guide).
Rebuild it for the web#
Pick a web engine: Godot (with GDScript), three.js, Babylon.js or PlayCanvas for 3D; anything in uploading a build works. Keep the numbers that matter the same as the real game: speeds, jump heights, timings, camera distance and field of view. They're what players feel.
Keep its state in localStorage#
Save the slice's progress as JSON in localStorage, so you get how far players got, not just how long they played: see game state.
Deploy and read the results#
Upload it like any build (uploading a build), share the link, and read what comes back as design feedback: what players did, where they got stuck, what they said. Not how the real game looks or runs: the slice won't look or perform like it.
